Here is a collection of the most frequent questions parents (and kids!) ask about our Skillz training and camps.
If you have more questions, please feel free to call us (608-212-7197), send an e-mail to sethkoz0@gmail.com.
Q. What is special about the Skillz sessions or our Camps compared to other basketball training courses?
A. We pride ourselves on challenging athletes with the most current and advanced drills available. The camps utilize training and coaching techniques developed for high school and college-level players. In short, the kids who attend our camps learn more and become better players.
Q. Who are these camps for?
A. Boys and girls ages 6-24 who like playing basketball, who want to play on school or community basketball teams and be the best they can be.
Q. What will my child learn or gain from attending this camp?
A. The players learn to be confident through repetition and drills meant to over-load their capacities. If you can master a skill with two balls at once, imagine how good you can be with one. Through demanding work, effort and a great attitude, your son or daughter naturally develop into a more confident player. They will learn by practicing specifically designed drills and techniques in an intensive, but fun, basketball setting.
Q. What do the kids need to bring to camp?
A. Your child will need to bring a clean, regulation-size, fully-inflated basketball. They will also need proper basketball shoes and apparel. Shorts and t-shirts are appropriate. You will want to provide them with a full spill-proof water bottle. Most important is a great attitude and willingness to work hard and to learn.
Q. Do the boys and girls practice and play together?
A. All campers are separated into different groups by age, gender, and skill level but sometimes they may play together.
Q Will each student camper get individual time with the coaches?
A. This is one of the aspects that separates our Camps and Skillz sessions from other sports camps. With our instructors they able to make an impact with their individual attention to students.
Q. What is the benefit in returning to camp again and again?
A. Players benefit greatly from additional sessions of SKS Skills and Camps. On each return trip to camp, students work on mastering the lessons from previous sessions. This strengthens the "muscle memory" started in the initial camp. Additionally, as players progress, they learn higher level skills.
Q. What qualifications and experience to Advantage Basketball Camps coaches and counselors have?
A. Our coaches are ‘home grown’ and have experienced everything your child is going through right now. We’ve taken the best drills and incorporated them into our teachings. See more here…
Q. Does SKS Skillz/camps utilize the same drills at every camp?
A. Yes. The fundamental drills remain the same for all skill levels. As players progress in abilities, they are given higher level drills and ball-handling moves to practice and work on.
Q. Can my child miss a day or half-day during a camp? Will this put them behind?
A. It is not uncommon for kids to occasionally miss a day or have to leave early or arrive late on some days due to various reasons. We realize that family schedules require flexibility. If they miss instructions for a new drill or ball-handling move, we will ensure they get time to bring them back up to speed.
Q. Will this camp be too intense or hard for them?
A. It may be. Our camps are a lot of work. We do not push the younger ages as hard as the older age groups. Some kids will move up with the older kids; most will stay at their age level. There are very few children who cannot meet the rigors of practice, or who do not have the stamina or physical abilities required.
Q My child is in high school. Is he/she too old for this camp?
A. We have a lot of high school kids who attend our camps. Most of the drills and teaching techniques used at SKS are the same ones used at the high school or college level. The camps are great preparation for college-level competition.
Q. Will my child be safe at SKS Camps?
A. Safety is our top priority and we will make sure all of our training athletes are in a safe environment.
